Amanda Matczynski

Amanda (Cherney) Matczynski is the Director of Marketing, Public Relations & Community Service at Cherney Microbiological Services, Ltd. Since joining the company full time in 2009, she has held primarily customer facing roles within the Business Development Department as a customer accounts manager, project assistant, and a variety of other roles. As her history with the company dates back to its inception, it is a natural fit for her to work with Cherney's customers on a personalized level. Rooted and grown within her dedication to the company is a passion for food safety and building partnerships with Cherney's clientele. A 2009 graduate of Creighton University, she hold a BSBA in Entrepreneurial Management and a minor in Biology. Amanda is also a graduate of the flagship award-winning, NSF (National Science Foundation) Bioscience Entrepreneurship Program. She is currently the secretary of the Wisconsin Laboratory Association (WLA).

Summertime Sample Shipping Reminders

Summer = sunshine +hot weather + “hopeful” vacations!  While this is a likely equation, our teams at Cherney have been noticing some reoccurring issues with incoming samples in the past few weeks.  While we have worked with customers directly, it also gives us the opportunity for a very relevant blog topic.  The information shared below is CRITICALLY IMPORANT to ensuring that the samples being submitted to the laboratory arrive in the best possible condition.  This allows for two things: 1) superior sample integrity and 2) the generation of accurate test results.

Ready to Catch the Second Wave?

Our blog to kick of 2017 related to starting of the year on the right with FOCUS – focus for your company, focus for your food safety plan and focus for continuing education.  We announced our 2017 Cherney College course listing for the year and talked high level about our strategic initiatives to increase our technical training opportunities outside of our building.  With only a month under our belt, our first course – FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food class is complete and went off quite well.

The Power of Giving Back - Building Community Involvement for Any Company

Does your workplace encourage employee engagement? If not, it should! Engaged employees are more productive, customer-focused, and profit-generating.  Outside of the workplace, engaged employees become part of a bigger community – one that gives back to those around them.   

Community involvement from the business’s perspective is beneficial and, in many cases, an essential practice in today’s society for companies of all types and sizes. Many businesses include community involvement, or corporate social responsibility, in their marketing plans.  With this in mind, community initiatives (or community giving) should be chosen strategically, both to help strengthen your business, as well as reflect what is important to you and your team.

Keeping Our Children's Lunches Safe

It’s back to school season and my family is excited to share with our daughter the start of Kindergarten. This is also the perfect time to highlight something that many children take for granted – Lunch Box and Lunchtime Food Safety!

Working in the food industry makes childcare even more challenging. We are more aware of the numerous recalls and hidden microbial challenges that surround us.  The “hot” or even “stinky” lunchbox that returns home after an 8 hour day at school screams to be cleaned!   Recently – the USDA and FoodSafety.gov have highlighted some quick reminders to ensure our kids are eating safe lunches and help PARENTS feel more comfortable.

The "411" on the NEW Nutrition Facts Label

While members of our Cherney team attended the IAFP (International Association for Food Protection) conference in St. Louis last week, one of the most common questions that we answered was regarding the update to the FDA’s requirements for the new Nutrition Facts Label.  These changes – made final on May 27th, 2016 - will require that manufacturers with more than $10M in annual food sales are compliant and utilize the new label by July 26, 2018. Smaller manufacturers with less than $10M in sales have an additional year to comply.

Each year - we anxiously await the end of the school year so that summer fun can officially begin.  Sadly, in the midst of family vacations, camping excursions and garden harvesting, we realize that it is quickly flying by and fall is just around the corner.
 
With the end of July upon us, our Cherney team is headed to the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) conference in St. Louis, MO.  A standard stop in our trade show itinerary, this conference is like coming home!  We rekindle friendships, grow current relationships, meet new partners and take in four days of food safety-focused seminars and meetings.  Attending the conference supports our commitment to stay current in industry knowledge and trends and keeps us at the forefront of new developments in lab testing and food safety.

September Recap - Grand Opening, Training, FSMA and more!


As another month comes to a close for Cherney- we’ve had the opportunity to celebrate and share with our customer many new and exciting additions in September. This month – we take time to recognize and thank the internal and external customers who make this all possible.

 Cherney – Clovis, NM Grand Opening Celebration:

  • On Wednesday, September 10th, we held our grand opening at our new location in Clovis, NM. As highlighted in previous blogs , our decision to open this new location was strategic in an effort to better serve our customer base within the Southwestern US. 
  • Attended by many members of the community, the Clovis Chamber of Commerce was able to join with an awesome big ribbon and scissors .
  • Our Wisconsin hospitality also traveled down south with the members of our team who distributed free WI Award Winning Brats & “Squeaky” Cheese Curds provided by some local companies.
