Ready to Catch the Second Wave?

Our blog to kick of 2017 related to starting of the year on the right with FOCUS – focus for your company, focus for your food safety plan and focus for continuing education.  We announced our 2017 Cherney College course listing for the year and talked high level about our strategic initiatives to increase our technical training opportunities outside of our building.  With only a month under our belt, our first course – FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food class is complete and went off quite well.

If you have attended one of our classes or are considering it, know that everything we do it intentional.  Our smaller class size – intentional.  Customized material – intentional.  Real life examples with an open forum - intentional.  Believe us when we say “we’re not just an education provider; we want to be your partner!”  I had to opportunity to talk with a few of our participants yesterday during lunch and here is what they had to say.

Are You FOCUSED Enough to Making 2017 Your Best Year Yet?

FOCUS. A simple word and concept, right? Although an easy idea, I find staying in a state of focus to be quite difficult. With demands of the modern workplace like multi-tasking, wearing many hats and shifting priorities, focus is vital to making progress and ultimately meeting objectives. One of Cherney’s strategic objectives for 2017 is to provide more technical training opportunities to our team, which supports the bigger goal of increasing employee engagement.  Yesterday, in between preparing for our 2017 public training courses, we mapped out topics and a schedule to make that happen. Of course this is just a start, but the plan sets the stage for all the steps to follow.

Getting to "Win-Win" - Creating a Food Safety Plan that Works for YOUR organization!

In my travels as Sales Manager for Cherney Microbiological Services, it is my pleasure to speak with food safety professionals from companies of varying sizes and industries.  In the last few years, FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) has taken a prominent role in our discussions of what is coming down the pipeline.  Many large companies have established food safety plans and follow SQF, HACCP (or HARPC) or other programs of which regular product and environmental testing is already an integral component.  This blog is not for those companies.  This blog is for companies whose food safety programs haven’t caught up to the regulatory environment we find ourselves in.

If you are a Quality Manager who feels that your department is viewed by top management at your company as little more than an expense or if you are new to your position and looking for help, then I’m talking to you, too!

It's here... Announcing our 2017 Cherney College Course Schedule!

With the holidays just around the corner, it signifies that another year is quickly approaching and with 2017 less than 60 days away, like you we are busy planning for the New Year.  Therefore, we are popping the champagne and rolling out the 2017 training schedule earlier than previous years for a simple reason - because you asked for it!  Check out our 2017 Cherney College course catalog and make your training budget request before the end of the year.  This helps make training a priority for you and your company in 2017. Whether your focus is related to FSMA or improving your laboratory and food safety programs, we’ve got you covered!

Environmental Sampling Sponges – Are the Right Tools in YOUR Toolbox?

Being in the industry for more than 35 years – I’ve experienced significant changes in technology and testing; we are getting as close to instantaneous analysis as the bacteria will allow it.  But I have always felt very strongly that a test can only be as good as the quality and integrity of the sample being analyzed.   The devices we use to collect environmental samples have also evolved and changed.

Staying Ahead of the Game through Continuous Improvement

Change.

One of the few constants in the world.

It has never been more evident than now in Food Safety.  With the implementation of FSMA requirements comes new challenges; and the need to manage change becomes even more critical.  How are you managing this demand?

An Alliance for Us All!

I’d like to share a bit more insight into a cause, a passion actually that is near and dear to my heart.  Not only does it fit what and who we stand for a company, it represents my passion for food safety as an individual.

"All Aboard!" - Jump on the Cherney College Train Today!

At Cherney College, we’re catching our breath after a busy few months of training activities! We launched our 2016 training courses in a BIG way, holding five courses in five weeks. Three of the courses were brand new for this year, including Plate Interpretation, Food Safety for Suppliers and FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food course, which certifies Preventive Controls Qualified Individuals for FSMA. These courses were a lot of fun, and here’s a sample of what attendees are saying about our 2016 courses.

  • Attended by many members of the community, the Clovis Chamber of Commerce was able to join with an awesome big ribbon and scissors .
  • Our Wisconsin hospitality also traveled down south with the members of our team who distributed free WI Award Winning Brats & “Squeaky” Cheese Curds provided by some local companies.
