As a customer, what do you do with your environmental results? Many of you have your own processes and quality procedures but are you using your results to effectively ensure your sanitation is working?
Growing up watching movies like Bicentennial Man I thought for sure by now (2018) we would each have a robot that would do our work for us. They would earn an income so we could kick back and relax (Right?) Are we there yet…no – so I’m forced to ask myself why? The main reason I always come back to is with the human element missing, robots cannot learn and question what they are programmed to do. The capacity to question and improve is very unique in humans and what often sets us apart, not only from robots but, other animals as well.
Ready to venture out now that spring is (hopefully) just around the corner? Join us in March for our first 2018 Cherney College course, Preventive Controls for Animal Food. This course is the FDA-recognized training for pet food and animal feed companies that will comply with new FSMA regulations this year. We have been actively involved in FSMA training since 2016, training over 125 Preventive Controls Qualified Individuals or PCQIs. In our experience, FSMA for human food is a matter of tweaking and adjusting programs that are already in place. The experience for those in the animal food industry is a whole other beast (see what I did there?). For years, regulation at the state and federal level covered medicated feed, labeling and adulteration but now the industry will have to create programs to comply with current Good Manufacturing Programs (CGMPs) AND preventive controls. This is a lot to tackle in a short time!
Our blog to kick of 2017 related to starting of the year on the right with FOCUS – focus for your company, focus for your food safety plan and focus for continuing education. We announced our 2017 Cherney College course listing for the year and talked high level about our strategic initiatives to increase our technical training opportunities outside of our building. With only a month under our belt, our first course – FSPCA Preventive Controls for Human Food class is complete and went off quite well.
If you have attended one of our classes or are considering it, know that everything we do it intentional. Our smaller class size – intentional. Customized material – intentional. Real life examples with an open forum - intentional. Believe us when we say “we’re not just an education provider; we want to be your partner!” I had to opportunity to talk with a few of our participants yesterday during lunch and here is what they had to say.
FOCUS. A simple word and concept, right? Although an easy idea, I find staying in a state of focus to be quite difficult. With demands of the modern workplace like multi-tasking, wearing many hats and shifting priorities, focus is vital to making progress and ultimately meeting objectives. One of Cherney’s strategic objectives for 2017 is to provide more technical training opportunities to our team, which supports the bigger goal of increasing employee engagement. Yesterday, in between preparing for our 2017 public training courses, we mapped out topics and a schedule to make that happen. Of course this is just a start, but the plan sets the stage for all the steps to follow.
With the holidays just around the corner, it signifies that another year is quickly approaching and with 2017 less than 60 days away, like you we are busy planning for the New Year. Therefore, we are popping the champagne and rolling out the 2017 training schedule earlier than previous years for a simple reason - because you asked for it! Check out our 2017 Cherney College course catalog and make your training budget request before the end of the year. This helps make training a priority for you and your company in 2017. Whether your focus is related to FSMA or improving your laboratory and food safety programs, we’ve got you covered!
Each year - we anxiously await the end of the school year so that summer fun can officially begin. Sadly, in the midst of family vacations, camping excursions and garden harvesting, we realize that it is quickly flying by and fall is just around the corner.
With the end of July upon us, our Cherney team is headed to the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP) conference in St. Louis, MO. A standard stop in our trade show itinerary, this conference is like coming home! We rekindle friendships, grow current relationships, meet new partners and take in four days of food safety-focused seminars and meetings. Attending the conference supports our commitment to stay current in industry knowledge and trends and keeps us at the forefront of new developments in lab testing and food safety.
In less than a week - four members of our Cherney team will be exhibiting in Milwaukee as part of the International Cheese Technology Expo (ICTE)! If you haven't experienced this memorable 2-day conference filled with industry experts and designed to stimulate your minds and your stomach you are missing out! Stop by and visit us at booth #645 and participate in a chance to win:

What’s in store for 2015
Our Strategic Plan was finalized with input from our entire team just before Christmas. We are off and running at executing that plan and had key items being worked on the first week of January.
