Method Description


Samples are prepared and dilutions made in MPN tubes and incubated based on method specifications. MPN tubes are then read and any tubes that produce gassing or effervescence are carried on for confirmation. Results generated based on number of positive tubes in the confirmation.

Fecal coliforms are one type of coliform bacteria that are found mainly in animal digestive tracts and feces. Fecal coliforms are a more specific indicator of fecal contamination of water. A confirmed positive test for fecal coliforms or E. coli means you need to take action as advised by your water system
